about
If one listens close enough to the intro of this loose, waltz of melancholia, an explanation of ‘75 Germany’ can be heard as described in conversation between a close friend of Superfan’s and the friend’s younger cousin who coined the term ‘75 Germany’ as a name for his make-believe land. Flanagan’s choice to title the song and include this detail in the choruses is with the intention of inquiring about the feasibility of defining one’s relationships in the certainty of change. The narrator again reflects on moments of tenderness (that occurred in Germany, coincidentally) with the subtext of wishing it could remain present.
lyrics
Time unlit
Time unfelt
Time we lived without standing still
Taking trains
Two hour change
I wouldn’t wash your name off of my hand
75 Germany
I saw the person I wish I could be
I wonder if
It’s aimless to desire
No person placed inside is free
Neither is swimming Lake Obersee
Pretend it’s just a city up for hire
You shaved the blisters off my feet
Formed in spells of idling
Told me it’ll hurt more when I look
Back at
75 Germany
If that’s all you wanna believe
I wonder if
It’s aimless to desire
